SHS Raises almost $9,000 for Hurricane Relief

The faculty and staff of SHS, with help from the Statesboro community, and generous donations from Claxton Poultry, Ellis Meats, McCook's Pharmacy, Southern Pharmacy, Fred's, and others, have successfully raised almost $9000 to be donated to American Red Cross for relief to those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  This could not have been accomplished without the help and heart of everyone who contributed!

Blue Devil News

In preparation for students who plan on taking the Dec 2 SAT (or any future SAT/ACT test), SHS will offer a two day review course on Sat Nov 11 and Sunday Nov 12th from 2:00-5:00 pm at SHS

  • One SHS math teacher and one SHS English teacher will each provide face to face instruction that will cover SAT-related content and will supplement their instruction with the Khan Academy online program. Teachers will also cover test-taking strategies.

  • $70 Fee. A minimum number of ten students will be needed to offer the program. The maximum will be 25 students.

  • Students will need to complete a full-length practice exam on Khan Academy by Sunday, Nov 5th.  This is critical so that the instructors can utilize test results to cover common areas of weakness.

  • We will not cover the writing section of the SAT as it is optional at most colleges now.

  • Preference will be given to Juniors and seniors.

Students will be able to register online starting Friday, October 13th.  After registering online students will need to secure their space by making a payment to Mrs. Bradley in the Guidance Office. Checks can be made out to SHS.  The first 25 students to register online AND make payment will secure a spot in the course. See Mr. Thomas if you have questions. Below, you can also find links including additional SAT/ACT review resources including several that are FREE.

Influenza Prevention

The best prevention is to get a flu vaccine each year. Since influenza is primarily spread through respiratory droplets, the following infection prevention measures are also important:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing
  • If a tissue is not available, sneeze or cough into your sleeve to contain the droplets (don't sneeze or cough into your hands)
  • Clean hands with soap and water or decontaminate hands with an alcohol-based hand rub
  • Stay home if you are ill.

Students and Parents:  School pictures, including extracurriculars (sports, band, etc...) can be purchased online through larita.com.  Click on Online Ordering and Search for event.  No password is needed.  This is a great opportunity to capture memories of the school year!
