The Statesboro High School School Council had its third meeting of the 24-25 school year on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 5:30 pm in the Media Center at Statesboro High School. Council members present were as follows: Principal Keith Wright, Dorsey Baldwin, Derek Kreisher, Kathy Yawn, Erica Scripture, Amy Jo Riggs, and Ashley Thompson. Cicely Sikes, Concella Holder and Talmeshia Parker were absent.

Chairperson Dorsey Baldwin called the meeting to order.

Kathy Yawn made a motion to approve the minutes from the October meeting and Erica Scripture seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved from the October meeting.

There were two items under Old Business. Ashley Thompson asked that the council members consider saying something positive about the school at each meeting. Erica Scripture said that she was awarded Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year. Derek Kreischer shared his statistics group project from last semester. Kathy Yawn appreciated that SHS teachers care about the "whole child”. She said that her daughter had surgery over Christmas Break and several teachers and coaches from the school reached out to check on her! Dorsey Baldwin talked about a scholarship workshop that she attended and

was very informative. The second item on the agenda under Old Business was a follow up from Honors/AP Night that SHS hosted in November. There was lots of positive feedback from the parent night. Some parents did request a one-pager for students and parents to understand how important the PSAT is.
The first item under New Business was Principal Updates. In Principal Keith Wright’s update, he talked about SHS being on the Promise Schools List,

the EOC Remediation/Retake plan, the district AP Committee, and the Honors Night Posting Window. Ashley Thompson updated the Council on the CCRPI scores for 23-24 and where those scores come from. Ashley Thompson also informed the parents about the EOC Remediation and Retake plan that the school is implementing in January and February. Principal Wright updated the members that the district AP committee met in January and is reviewing the current AP policies. Principal Wright finished off by informing the committee members that there is a separate honors night posting window for honors night. The parents suggested that we use the term “deadline” instead of “posting window” because parents don’t understand what that wording means, but they do understand the term deadline.
